Kardinia, a strategic project

Malteurop has seen the Geelong site as a strategic location and recently invested heavily in the construction of a new 120kmt plant adjacent to its existing 80kmt malthouse. Labelled ‘Project Kardinia’, this new state of the art malting & grain handling plant and equipment will position the site as one of Malteurop’s global pillars of production, located in the key barley growing regions of the world.  Construction was completed within 2 years by mid-2018 and with commissioning and integration with the existing Tower plant now completed, the plant is running at full capacity.

A formal opening ceremony was conducted on 1st October 2018. Hosted by Vivescia, over 100 guests from around the world came to join in the celebration and included Local & State dignitaries. Guided tours around the new plant were given to all and followed up with a responsible round of drinks that of course included Champagne!

We are looking to capitalise on growth in beer consumption in the Asia Pacific and particularly in
Southeast Asia which is now a significant area of growth for the worldwide beer market.

Asia already has a deficit in its production of cereal grains and malt, so Australia as a major
producer is well placed to meet that demand. With Malteurop’s Geelong facility so well placed in
terms of proximity to the highest quality and most abundant malting barley sources and its bayside
location on Australia’s main export gateway, we have a fantastic opportunity here.
